The Drama League has selected its participants for the 2023 Drama League Directors Project, which will give 14 directors fellowships, assistantships, and residencies. The cohort will be formally introduced at the 89th Annual Drama League Awards, to be held May 19 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom.
Selected recipients include Héctor Alvarez, Alex Keegan, and EJ Soto as FutureNow Directing Fellows; Michelle Chan, Diego González, Sanhawich Meateanuwat, and Vanessa Ogbuehi for Directing Assistantships; Ann Kreitman as Beatrice Terry Director in Residence; and Nehprii Amenii and Lyam B. Gabel as Next Stage Directors in Residence
Going into their second years are Drama League Stage Directing Fellows Nadia Guevara and Ibi Owolabi. Fellowships are presented in partnership with Manhattan Theatre Club, New Jersey's McCarter Theater Center, Texas' Dallas Theater Center, New York Stage & Film, Red Bull Theater, and Theatre Communications Group, and come with $100,000 and health insurance support. Also continuing in their second years Drama League Film/Television Directing Fellows, NJ Agwuna and Justin Emeka are expanding outside of theatre by shadowing on the Disney+/Nat Geo. series A Small Light under the mentorship of Tony Phelan (Grey's Anatomy).
