A staged reading of Marvin Hamlisch: Love Is Never Gone is being performed at The Green Room 42 in New York City May 10. Described as "a musical biography," the work has been conceived and developed by James Horan.

The project was inspired by Hamlisch's autobiography The Way I Was, telling the Broadway and film composer's life story from his early years as a Juilliard wunderkind to writing one of Broadway's most iconic and enduring musicals, A Chorus Line. In Love Is Never Gone, that story is paired with Hamlisch's songs. This reading follows a 2014 workshop performance.

The reading's cast features Stearns Matthews as Marvin, Corinna Sowers Adler as Terre, Elle Michaeli as Liza, Hannah Jane as Barbra, Jake Oswell as Featured Singer, and Frank Stancati as The Critic.

Proceeds from the May 10 event will go to the New York City Gay Men's Chorus.

"I've poured my heart and soul into Marvin Hamlisch: Love Is Never Gone, driven by my admiration for Marvin's genius and the impact his music has had on my life," says Horan in a statement. "Through this production, I aim to pay homage to his enduring legacy while inviting audiences to laugh, weep, and be transported by his stunning songs."

Hamlisch's Broadway career included a stint as an arranger on Funny Girl; Henry, Sweet Henry; Golden Rainbow; Minnie's Boys; and Seesaw before he made his compositional debut with the landmark 1975 musical A Chorus Line. Created with Michael Bennett, Edward Kleban, James Kirkwood, and Nicholas Dante, the musical would go on to become a long-running hit on the Main Stem, introducing such showtune favorites as "One," "What I Did for Love," "At the Ballet," and "Nothing." In the years after Chorus Line, Hamlisch composed music for Broadway's They're Playing Our SongSmileThe Goodbye GirlSweet Smell of Success, and Imaginary Friends.
