Olivier nominee Maimuna Memon (Standing at the Sky’s Edge) is back, and she's bringing her celebrated musical Manic Street Creature with her.
Previously staged at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022, the Fringe First and Playbill Pick recipient will play London's Southwark Playhouse October 19 through November 11, with October 24 set for opening night.
Based on Memon's personal experiences with love, lust, and late nights, Manic Street Creature takes audiences inside the story and point-of-view of Ria, a young woman who moves to London in pursuit of a music career, as she falls in love and wrestles with the traumas burdening both her and her partner.
Structured through the framing device of Ria attempting to record a concept album, Manic Street Creature deals head on with the difficult realities of loving a partner with significant mental health issues, and the toll compassion exhaustion can take on care providers.

Featuring book, music, and lyrics by Memon, Memon will be joined onstage by Rachel Barnes as Heidi, and Harley Johnston as Raz, who will also serve as her co-instrumentalists as Memon cycles through accompanying herself on seven different instruments.
Directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward, the Southwark Playhouse production will also feature sound design by Sound Quiet Time, lighting design by Jamie Platt, and space design by Libby Watson. Pia Ashcroft is the creative associate.
