Olivier nominee Maimuna Memon (Standing at the Sky’s Edge)'s celebrated musical Manic Street Creature officially opens at London's Southwark Playhouse October 24, after beginning performances October 19.

Previously staged at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022, the Fringe First and Playbill Pick recipient will play through November 11.

Based on Memon's personal experiences with love, lust, and late nights, Manic Street Creature takes audiences inside the story and point-of-view of Ria, a young woman who moves to London in pursuit of a music career, as she falls in love and wrestles with the traumas burdening both her and her partner.

Structured through the framing device of Ria attempting to record a concept album, Manic Street Creature deals head on with the difficult realities of loving a partner with significant mental health issues, and the toll compassion exhaustion can take on care providers.

Featuring book, music, and lyrics by Memon, Memon is joined onstage by Rachel Barnes as Heidi, and Harley Johnston as Raz, who also serves as her co-instrumentalists as Memon cycles through accompanying herself on seven different instruments.

Directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward, the Southwark Playhouse production features sound design by Sound Quiet Time, lighting design by Jamie Platt, and space design by Libby Watson. Pia Ashcroft is the creative associate.
