Leicester’s Curve will stage a new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Tony-winning Evita November 27, 2023-January 13, 2024.

Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster will direct. Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.

Foster and Curve Chief Executive Chris Stafford state, “We’ve always tried to offer our audiences here in Leicester bold and visually arresting productions of the great musicals, and Evita promises to continue this tradition, as we aim high and try to match the original ambition Tim and Andrew had when they first created this extraordinary piece of musical theatre."

Evita, which premiered as a two-LP recording starring Julie Covington (Eva) and Colm Wilkinson (Che), features a score by Lloyd Webber (music) and Rice (lyrics). Hal Prince staged both the original London and New York productions of the musical, which made stars of Elaine Paige (in London) and Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone (on Broadway). The score features such tunes as "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Buenos Aires," "A New Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall," "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You," and "Rainbow High." Madonna, Antonio Banderas, and Jonathan Pryce starred in the film version; Elena Roger headed the cast of the London and Broadway revivals, the latter with Ricky Martin.

The venue also announced that Come From Away will open its U.K. and Ireland tour in a Curve co-production at the theatre March 1-9, 2024. And, Jim Cartwright's Road, originally staged at London’s Royal Court Theatre in 1986, will play the Curve May 18-20, 2023, as the theatre's annual co-production with De Montfort University, which gives performing arts students the opportunity to work with professionals. The drama gives voice to community members living on a street in northern England in the 1980s.

The Curve, as previously reported, will also welcome the musical stage adaptation of Markus Zusak’s novel The Book Thief September 29-October 14, 2023. Featuring a book by Jodi Picoult and Timothy Allen McDonald and music and lyrics by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson, The Book Thief follows a young German girl who learns the power of words in the shadow of the Nazi regime.
