A new movie musical is in early development from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry and producer-music maker Pharrell Williams. No release date is set for the untitled film.
According to Deadline, Kelvin Harrison, Jr. will star in the coming-of-age film, set in 1977 Virginia Beach, where Williams grew up. Harrison previously starred as Christian opposite Peter Dinklage in Joe Wright's musical film Cyrano.
Da'Vine Joy Randolph, this year's Best Featured Actress Oscar winner for The Holdovers, is said to be in talks to co-star. Randolph made her Broadway debut in a Tony-nominated turn as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost the Musical.
Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen scribe Steven Levenson has co-written the script with Martin Hynes. Mimi Valdés will produce with Williams through i am OTHER, alongside Gil Netter for Gil Netter Productions.
