Regional News Kate Baldwin Will Lead The Prom at Connecticut's Sharon Playhouse

The company is also staging productions of Rock of Ages, Steel Magnolias, and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Broadway star Kate Baldwin will become Broadway star Dee Dee Allen in an upcoming staging of The Prom at Connecticut's Sharon Playhouse. Performances will run July 26-August 11, with Carl Andress at the helm.

The cast will also include Danny Drewes as Trent Oliver, Hannah Jane Moore as Emma Nolan, Sophie Nassiri Morvillo as Alyssa Greene, Ryan Palmer as Sheldon Saperstein, Erick Pinnick as Tom Hawkins, Tracy Liz Miller as Mrs. Greene, John Scherer as Barry Glickman, and Savannah Stevenson as Angie. The ensemble will feature Zoe Benjamin, Anissa Greigo, Ethan Pugh, Nick Traficante, Erik Daughterman, Mackenzie Farrell, Melissa Goldberg, Jonathan Reyes, Gabi Roller, and Henrique Sobrinho. Local high school teen performers Jo Brinkerhoff, Richie Crane, Carlo Desy, Jakob Kerr-Lucero, Mollie Leonard, Tyler Rosenblum, Jessica Sonner, and Mia Tonon; and swing Molly Model round out the company.

The musical—by Matthew Sklar, Chad Beguelin, and Bob Martin—follows a group of Broadway performers looking to get some notoriety by helping out a gay teenager who's been barred from attending her high school prom in a small midwestern town. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2018, and was adapted for the screen by Netflix in 2020. Krystyna Resavy is choreographing the Sharon Playhouse production.

The company will open their season with Rock of Ages, performing June 21-July 7 with Hunter Foster directing and Shannon Lewis choreographing. The cast will include Giuliana Augello as Sherrie, Jordan Bollwerk as Drew, LaDonna Burns as Justice, Tatianna Cordoba as Regina, Landry Champlin as Waitress #1, Danny Drewes as Stacee Jaxx, Jordan Friend as Lonny, Annie Gagen as Constance Sack, Coulby Jenkins as Franz Klineman,” Xavier McKnight as Ja’Keith, Kilty Reidy as Dennis Dupree, Noah Silverman as Joey Primo, and Dick Terhune as Hertz Klineman. Julia Joy will complete the company in the ensemble, in addition to serving as associate director and choreographer.

After The Prom, Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias will take the stage August 30-September 8 with Jackson Gay directing. The cast will feature Susan Cella as Clairee, Jen Cody as Truvy, Etta Grover as Shelby, Marinell Madden-Crippen as M'Lynn, Emma Simon as Annelle, and Liza Vann as Ouiser.

The season will close with You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, to be directed by Julia Murney and choreographed by Michelle Lemon. Performances will run September 20-29. The cast will feature Courtney Balan as Lucy, Nicolas Alan Fernandez as Snoopy, Sammy Pignalosa as Linus, Daniel Plimpton as Charlie Brown, Hayley Podschun as Sally, and Jason Williams as Schroeder.

Eric Thomas Johnson will serve as music director for the entire season. Casting is by Judy Bowman.
