Elfbegins performances on Broadway November 9 at the Marquis Theatre. This is the show's second Broadway revival, and Grey Henson will be playing Buddy the Elf, a human who is adopted by North Pole elves. He is encouraged by Santa (played by Sean Astin) to go find his biological father in New York City and bring the spirit of Christmas back. It is directed by Philip Wm. McKinley.
It had its first Broadway revival for two months in 2012, again directed by Nicholaw. It starred Jordan Gelber as Buddy and Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as his love interest Jovie. Actors from the original production returned for this engagement, including Leavel and Jacoby.
Since its premiere, Elf has become a popular holiday show nationwide. It has also run three times in the West End. In 2014, NBC adapted the musical into an animated film called Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas, featuring the voice of Jim Parsons and Star Wars' Mark Hamill. It can be streamed on Paramount+.
