One of Shakespeare’s most quoted plays will be performed across the Hudson this spring, with Hamlet launching Jersey City’s Shakespeare@ inaugural season.

The production, helmed by Artistic Director Sean Hagerty, will be mounted at the Theater at Grace Church Van Vorst with previews starting March 29. The aim is to create a diverse interpretation of the play, which is set in Denmark during the late Middle Ages. Instead of a typical cast, Hagerty hopes audiences will see themselves and their neighborhoods represented on stage

All of the cast are best known from work in TV. Jonathan Forbes (Catastrophe) will play the title role, alongside Eden Brolin (Beyond) as Ophelia, Andrew Sellon (Gotham) as Polonius, Aria Shahghasemi (Legacies) as Laertes, and Mark Torres (Manifest) as Claudius. Additional cast members include Thia Stephan, Francis Mateo, Fernando Hernández, André Revels, Tenzin Yeshi, Mark Jonathan Quiles, Alice Marks, Wesli Spencer, and Robert Steven Anderson.

This mounting of Hamlet will have music by Joan Melton, lights by Sarah Johnston, costumes by Anne-Marie Wright, and sound design by Donghyuk Chang. Brad Lemons will serve as fight director, with Joan Melton as voice and speech coach and casting by Robin Carus. Sydney Steele is the associate producer.
