The creative team is set for the upcoming stage musical adaptation of August Rush, based on the Oscar-nominated Warner Bros. film about an orphaned music prodigy on a quest to be reunited with his parents.

Directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, the Chicago-area production is the first world premiere musical to be produced by the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois. Virginia’s Signature Theatre, which was previously announced to partner in the co-world premiere, is no longer attached.

August Rush will begin previews at the Paramount April 24 ahead of a May 3 opening night. Performances are scheduled through June 2.

August Rush features music and lyrics by Mark Mancina (who scored the original Warner Bros. film) and a book and lyrics by Glen Berger. Orchestrations and additional music are by Tony nominee David Metzger, who orchestrated the film.

August Rush will have choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, music direction by Greg Jarrett, sets by Scott Pask, costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting by Paul Toben, sound design by Dan Moses Schreier, projection design by Joe Burke, wig, hair and makeup by Katie Cordts, and props by Jesse Gaffney. Casting is by Trent Stork and Stewart Whitley. Adam John Hunter, Christine D’Amore, and Matthew McMullen serve as stage managers.

Casting for the actor-musician production will be announced in the coming weeks. Doyle earned critical acclaim and a Tony Award for his actor-musician revival of Sweeney Todd in 2005, which was followed by a Tony-nominated revival of Company in 2006. Doyle has also staged the Tony-winning revival of The Color Purple, as well as Kander and Ebb's final Broadway musical, The Visit. He is currently artistic director of Off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company.
