Tony-winning Into the Woods original cast member Joanna Gleason will make a New York stage return in the Off-Broadway world premiere of Joshua Harmon (Prayer for the French Republic)'s We Had a World.
The Manhattan Theatre Club production will play New York City Center beginning February 25, 2025, ahead of a March 19 opening night. Trip Cullman will direct, reuniting with Harmon after helming his Significant Other.
Gleason will star as Renee, a dying woman who calls upon her grandson to write a "bitter and vitriolic" (according to press notes) play about their family, ultimately invoking past family fights, cruelty, and love.
Drama Desk nominee Jeanine Serralles (Inside Llewyn Davis) will co-star. Additional casting is to be announced.
Gleason won a Tony Award creating the role of the Baker's Wife in the original cast of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods, also appearing on Broadway in I Love My Wife, The Real Thing, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Social Security, Nick & Nora, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. She was last seen Off-Broadway in Roundabout Theatre Company's 2011 production of Sons of the Prophet.
