Master actor James Earl Jones will be featured in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ drama The Night of the Iguana, planned for this spring at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA.
No other casting has been announced. The production is scheduled to run February 18 through March 18.
Michael Wilson will direct the revival of Williams’ 1961 drama about a defrocked Southern preacher and the people he meets at a crumbling hotel on the coast of Mexico, including an elderly man traveling with his granddaughter, a portrait painter.
Jones has been acting since 1953. He won the Tony Award and the Golden Globe Award for his performance as a boxer in The Great White Hope (1969). He also earned an Oscar nomination for the role. He won the Tony again in 1987 for originating the lead role in August Wilson’s Fences. He is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for performances in Heat Wave, Gabriel’s Fire, and Summer’s End. He also on the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award and an honorary Academy Award.
He is familiar to the world for his voice roles as Darth Vader in the Star Wars films, and as Mufasa in Disney's The Lion King.
Jones appeared most recently on the New York stage in a cameo in the 2016 Encores! production of God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater.
