The new musical features direction, music, and lyrics by Broadway alum Chilina Kennedy.

Art Lab will present a private industry reading of Silk, a new musical, later this week. 

Created by Meg Fofonoff, the musical features a book and additional lyrics by Eric Holmes. and music and lyrics by Chilina Kennedy and Daniel Edmonds. Directed by Kennedy, the reading will be held December 15 for a group of invite only attendees.

The reading will star Myha’la Herrold as Denise, Julian Ovenden as Mouret, Jackie Burns as Madame Des Forges, Eddie Cooper as Baudu, Aisha Jackson as Pauline, Kevin Cahoon as Bourdoncle, James Harkness as Bourras, Hailee Kaleem Wright as Genevieve, Jessica Keenan Wynn as Countess Des Boves, Jennifer Fouche as Madame Guibal, Josh Jordan as Jean, Nasia Thomas as Madame Marty, Bridget Beirne as Madame Aurelie, Zoe Jensen as Clara, Megan Masako Haley as Marguerite, Jimmy Brewer as Deloche, Caleb Mathura as Bauge, Pascal Pastrana as Hutin, Nico Oliveri as Colomban, and Jayden Theophile as Pepe.

Based on Émile Zola's The Ladies' ParadiseSilk centers on Denise, a young woman from the country attempts to survive in Paris at the turn of the century. When she comes head-to-head with the incredibly power owner of the world’s first department store, Mouret, Denise finds her life flipped on its head, even as she revolutionizes his worldview. What does it mean to love the man who set the world on a path towards obsessive consumption? And how can true connection thrive under capitalism?
