The musical is currently running at New York Theatre Workshop. Inspired by Walter Tevis' best-selling 1963 novel "The Man Who Fell to Earth," the story follows Thomas Newton – played by Michael C. Hall – a human-looking and lovelorn alien who has been abandoned on the planet.
The Off-Broadway production, which officially opened Dec. 7, 2015, is helmed by Obie winner Ivo van Hove; following an initial sell-out and extensions, it is now scheduled to close with a sold-out benefit performance Jan. 20.
But with scalpers getting $1,000-$2,500 for tickets to the remaining performances, producers are taking a second look at the show, which is doing well despite mixed reviews.
The Post quoted an unnamed Broadway producer who said, "I thought the show was brilliant...but it’s pretty inscrutable. No one thought it was commercial until this week."
