The ceremony will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Feb. 15. As reported earlier, Broadway sensation Hamilton is also set to perform its opening number at the event. Gaga's tribute is set to be directed by three-time Grammy winner Nile Rodgers, who produced Mr. Bowie's acclaimed 1983 album "Let's Dance." The news of the tribute follows the recent announcement of a new biography chronicling his final years, scheduled to be released later this year.
Mr. Bowie lost a very private 18-month battle with cancer Jan. 10 at age 69. He released his album "Blackstar" just days before his death and had recently made his musical theatre writing debut with Lazarus, a new musical created by Mr. Bowie in collaboration with Tony-winning playwright Enda Walsh. Helmed by Ivo van Hove, Lazarus finished performances at New York Theatre Workshop Jan. 20. Van Hove was one of the few to have known about his illness. He said Mr. Bowie told him about it when they first began collaborating on the show, but asked that it remain strictly confidential.
