We wished. More than anything. And, the wish has been granted. The current Broadway revival of Into the Woods will release an original cast recording. Concord Theatricals/Craft Recordings will release the recording of the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical in September on streaming and digital platforms worldwide. A physical release will be announced at a later time.
Sara Bareilles, who plays the Baker's Wife, shared photos and videos from the recording studio on her Instagram stories, saying, "Get excited. Things are happening." Her story was regrammed by producer Jordan Roth, who added, "Surprise! @IntoTheWoodsBroadway cast album wish granted!"
Instagram stories disappear 24 hours after posted, but Rapunzel's Prince Joshua Henry gave longer-lasting photo evidence.
The New York City Center Encores! production of the Sondheim-Lapine fairytale musical opened at the St. James Theatre July 10 for a limited run through August 21. Along with Bareilles and Henry, the cast includes Brian d'Arcy James, Patina Miller, Phillipa Soo, Gavin Creel, Julia Lester, Cole Thompson, David Patrick Kelly, Annie Golden, Nancy Opel, Aymee Garcia, Ta'Nika Gibson, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Turner, and Alysia Velez.
