Nearly two years to the day since Broadway shut down, the first episode of new docuseries Here's To The Ladies Who has dropped on Broadway Women's Alliance YouTube Channel. Following the return of Broadway and the women shaping it, the series includes interviews with other 100 women industry leaders, trailblazers, and activists. Watch the first episode above.
Schele Williams, Amber Iman, Nicole Brewer, Heather Hitchens, Lauren Reid, Daryl Roth, Aaliytha Stevens, and Nicole Johnson all make appearances in the series, which will drop a second episode March 22 and subsequent episodes every three weeks through July 5.
Tony nominee Ashley Park narrates the first episode of the seven-part series from The Broadway Women's Alliance and YesAnd Productions. Directed by Heather Arnson and executive produced by Catherine Markowitz, the project explores the experiences and perspectives of women in theatre as they lived through the shutdown and worked on theatre's return through interviews with more than 100 women and behind-the-scenes footage. This archive of experience was filmed over four months.
“This project started out with a simple goal: to capture stories from the women who were on the ground when Broadway shut down,” Arnson said in a statement. "We are sharing the experiences of women who have been in the industry for decades interweaving their accounts with those who have been here for only a few months (and everyone in between), thus creating an incredible and profound tapestry.
Co-founder of Broadway Women's Alliance Katie Dalton said "Our organization was founded with a singular goal: to connect women in our industry for peer-to-peer support. That support was never more vital than during the shutdown, when we all leaned on each other to navigate unbelievable challenges. The stories of how women met those challenges and are driving Broadway forward are truly remarkable."
Arielle Cohen, Anna Mack, and Holly Sutton served as line producers. Other contributors to the project include production and post-production supervisor Ruby Zinner, editor Abbie Steckler for Little Scorpion Studios, sound designer and engineer Rosie Kaplan, and assistant editor Adriana Cespedes. Motion graphics are by Sarah Thurm and Ali Sousa served as head of research.
