In honor of World Refugee Day June 20, Off-Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof welcomed an audience of refugees to attend the performance and engage in community-building activities around their immigration experiences.
After the performances, Luis A. Miranda led a discussion between the cast and the audience about their experience watching the show, with emotional firsthand stories shared throughout the evening.
American Friends Service Committee — Immigrant Rights Program, Catholic Charities, Catholic Charities — Brooklyn & Queens, HIAS, Immigration Equality, International Rescue Committee (IRC), Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, Museum of Jewish Heritage, New Sanctuary Coalition, New York Immigration Coalition, RDJ Refugee Shelter, Tenement Museum were among the organizations coordinating efforts to bring attendees.
This production of Fiddler on the Roof won the 2019 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, the 2019 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Revival, a 2019 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award Special Citation and star Steven Skybell is the winner of the 2019 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Lead Actor.
