The Olivier- and Tony-winning hit play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has announced two additional international productions.

The play, the first Harry Potter story to be presented on stage, will be seen in Brazil in 2025, followed by the Netherlands in 2026. Based on a new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play by Thorne, directed by Tiffany.

The Brazilian run, to be performed in Portuguese, will be produced by VME and will mark the play’s inaugural run in Latin America. The Netherlands production will be performed in Dutch and produced by Stage Entertainment. Both productions will utilize the reimagined, one-part version of the play. Further details will be announced at a later date.

In a statement producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said, “We are thrilled to be launching two new productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The story and themes of Harry Potter—friendship, self-discovery, courage, sacrifice, love and forgiveness, and of course growing up and the challenges of parenting—resonates with so many people around the world, and we are excited to be able to share our play with new audiences in Brazil and the Netherlands. We look forward to collaborating with our producing partners VME and Stage Entertainment to bring the magic of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to two new countries.”

Following a world premiere in London in July 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened on Broadway as a two-part experience April 22, 2018. The production would go on to be nominated for 10 Tony Awards, winning five, including Best Play. The condensed, one-part production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened December 7, 2021, at the Lyric Theatre following the COVID-19 pandemic. A new, shorter iteration was implemented on Broadway in November.

The production also features movement by Steven Hoggett, set by Christine Jones, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, music and arrangements by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, illusions and magic by Jamie Harrison, and music supervision and arrangements by Martin Lowe. U.S. casting is by Jim Carnahan.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender, and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.
