The new work, conceived by Michael Scheman and book writer David Stern ("Geppetto," "Open Season 2," "Open Season 3," My Son Pinocchio), runs through Nov. 17 at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, CT, Goodspeed's home for developing innovative and original new musicals.
According to press notes, "This romantic comedy blends some of the best-loved music from composer Stephen Schwartz's Broadway shows (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, The Baker's Wife) with some of his lesser-known gems. You'll meet Sue and Dan, a couple who, after 20 years of marriage, have drifted apart. Together they discover a box of photographs which leads them to relive the memories of their past selves captured in the snapshots. Featuring fresh lyrics and orchestrations, our couple discovers the humorous twists of how love united them and why life has pushed them apart. Every couple will see themselves in Snapshots!"
Joining Mason (Wonderland, Mamma Mia!, Hairspray) as Sue and Jacoby (Elf, Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, Show Boat) as Dan are Elizabeth Stanley (Million Dollar Quartet, Cry-Baby, Company) as Susan, Matthew Scott (Sondheim on Sondheim, A Catered Affair, Jersey Boys) as Daniel, Ephie Aardema (national tours of Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music) as Susie and Dan DeLuca as Danny.
Snapshots features famous songs and new orchestrations by Schwartz and a book by Stern. Additional music and lyrics were written by David Crane, Seth Friedman, Marta Kaufman, Alan Menken and Charles Strouse.
Daniel Goldstein, who directed the Broadway revival of Schwartz's Godspell, helms Snapshots. Other members of the creative team include David Farley (set and costumes), David Weiner (lighting design), Steve Orich (orchestrator), Jason Thompson (projection designer), Adam Souza (music director) and Jay Hilton (sound design). Michael Price produces.
