Awards Glenn Weiss Wins Directors Guild Award for 75th Annual Tony Awards

Weiss is the most awarded live television director in the history of the DGAs.

Glenn Weiss was honored by the Directors Guild of America February 18, receiving the Variety/Talk/News/Sports–Specials Award for his work directing the live broadcast of the 75th Annual Tony Awards.

With five wins (out of eight nominations), Weiss is the most awarded director in this category. He leapt to public prominence in 2018, when he proposed to his longtime girlfriend Jan Svendsen while accepting his Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards. In his DGA speech, Weiss revealed that he and Svendsen had eloped and were now married.

Weiss' directorial team for the 75th Annual Tony Awards included associate directors Ken Diego, Robin Abrams, Susan Kopensky, and Ricky Kirshner and stage managers Garry Hood, Bennymar Almonte, Phyllis Digilio, Peter Epstein, Andrew Feigin, Doug Fogel, Jeffry Gitter, Tyler Goldman, Arthur Lewis, Kevin Lishawa, Julie LoRusso, Seth Mellman, Jason Pacella, Jeffrey Pearl, Annette Powlis, Lauren Class Schneider, and Eddie Valk.

Weiss is a prolific television director, responsible for 20 Tony Awards ceremonies, seven Academy Awards ceremonies, the Kennedy Center Honors, CableACE Awards, Billboard Music Awards, BET Awards, Peter Pan Live!, The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage!, Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, Primetime Emmy Awards, Live from Lincoln Center, and the American Music Awards.
