Ariana DeBose Will Host the 2024 Tony Awards

Stage and screen star Ariana DeBose will return to host the 2024 Tony Awards, set to be held June 16 at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater. As with last year's Tonys, the 77th annual ceremony will be broadcast in two parts, with The Tony Awards: Act One presented on free streamer Pluto TV in partnership with CBS and The 77th Annual Tony Awards following on CBS and streaming via Paramount+. Nominations will be announced April 30.

The gig will mark DeBose's third consecutive time hosting the Broadway's top honors, placing her in an esteemed list of other three-time Tony hosts that include Julie Andrews, Bud Collyer, Rosie O'Donnell, and James Sauter. DeBose's record will only be bested by four-time hosts Neil Patrick Harris, Hugh Jackman, Nathan Lane, and Robert Preston; and reigning champion five-time host, Angela Lansbury.

But it will be only the second time DeBose gets to lead the ceremony with a script. Last year's Tonys fell during the WGA Writer's Strike, forcing the Tony Awards to go on completely unscripted. DeBose will also serve as a producer on the show, and will choreograph the opening number.

Along with her multi award-winning performance as Anita in the Steven Spielberg-directed film adaptation of Broadway's West Side Story, DeBose starred in the Netflix film version of Broadway's The Prom and two seasons of Apple TV+'s Golden Age musical theatre satire Schmigadoon! Most recently, she starred in Disney's 2023 animated film Wish and 2024's comedy thriller Argylle. Upcoming screen projects include Kraven the Hunter, Stealing Jokes, and House of Spoils. DeBose's film career followed a meteoric rise on stage, making her Broadway debut in Bring It On and going on to appear on Broadway in Motown the Musical, Pippin, Hamilton, A Bronx Tale, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. She earned a Tony nomination for her performance as Disco Donna in the latter.
