Astoria Performing Arts Center is planning a spring revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman’s 1971 Broadway musical Follies, which will be presented May 3-18 at the company's intimate home, The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Astoria, Queens.

Artistic director Dev Bondarin will helm the mainstage musical that centers around a group of aging follies girls who return to New York for one final reunion before their former theatre is torn down.

Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning score features “I'm Still Here,” “Broadway Baby,” “Losing My Mind,” “The Right Girl,” and “Too Many Mornings.” Harold Prince directed the 1971 original. Follies was last revived on Broadway in 2011.

APAC’s 2017-2018 mainstage season also includes the world premiere of Monet Hurst-Mendoza’s Veil’d, about a 16-year-old girl from Afghanistan who immigrates to New York with her family in search of the American dream. However, a rare skin condition keeps her sequestered in her room, far away from the normal teenage life her parents dreamed for her. Pirronne Yousefzadeh directs the November 2–18 run.

In February 2018, APAC will partner with Beehive Dramaturgy Studio to present Intersecting Identities, a new works series dedicated to plays exploring race, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, religion, and country of origin.
