Off-Broadway News Fiasco Theater to Return to Its Roots with Shakespeare’s Rarely-Staged Pericles

The 2022-23 season will also feature a closed workshop of Hamlet with Deaf West Theater.

Fiasco Theater’s upcoming season will begin with a return to its Shakespeare roots starting this fall. The New York-based company will present Without a Net’s production of Pericles at Houghton Hall Off-Broadway October 19–29. Telling the story of a refugee searching for mercy and good fortune, the play’s genre has been debated as a comedy, romance, or tragicomedy over the decades.

Following in 2023, Red Bull Theater will present Francis Beaumont’s The Knight of the Burning Pestle in association with Fiasco at Off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theater April 18–May 14, 2023. The Elizabethan parody begins with a play within a play as actors must adapt a show about star-crossed lovers following an interruption that leads the title’s new story, The Knight of the Burning Pestle.

The season will also include a private workshop of Hamlet with Deaf West Theatre in November. While not open to the public, the aim is to develop the production so that the co-production may be ready for a future season.
