Times may be hard, but there is still joy to be found, even after a long week. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a moment of emotional release. Welcome to Playbill's Feel Good Friday feature.
Oh, hell no. Not Danielle Brooks begging legend Oprah Winfrey to say the "You told Harpo to beat me" lines! In a TikTok shared by Winfrey from the set of The Color Purple musical film, Brooks is doing just that. So it should probably be hell yes!
Brooks plays Sofia in the musical film, the role that Winfrey originated in the 1985 film. In the video below, Brooks is in costume, between takes with Winfrey, who produces the new musical film. Then she starts pleading that Winfrey should do, "'You told Harpo to beat me' just one more time, for me please!" Winfrey obliges and a giddy Brooks joins in.
@oprah Only Danielle Brooks could get me to do this! #thecolorpurple ♬ original sound - Oprah
Since the film's December 25 theatrical release, Winfrey has been sharing several behind-the-scenes moments: of the company doing the electric slide after the first day of filming (we spied Brooks and Colman Domingo joining Winfrey in the line dance), of her best friend Gayle King visiting set and singing along with the title song, and of the company in costume singing a gospel hymn (Kirk Franklin's "Brighter Day") outside the set's church. "This set was full of JOY," wrote Winfrey. See the videos below.
