Denise Van Outen will join the cast of the London production of Chicago September 24 through November 17. Having previously played the role of Roxie Hart on Broadway and in the West End, Van Outen will now take on the role of Velma Kelly alongside Alexandra Burke’s Roxie.
The cast also includes Mazz Murray as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart. As previously announced, Hollyoaks star Duncan James will join the cast at the Phoenix Theatre as Billy Flynn beginning September 10.
Van Outen has also appeared on stage in Tell Me on a Sunday, Legally Blonde, Rent, and her solo show, Some Girl I Used to Know. Television audiences across the pond may recognize her as one of the current judges of Ireland’s Got Talent.
Chicago first returned to the West End this in March after an original 15-year run at the Adelphi Theatre.
Since the revival opened in New York in 1996, Chicago has played in 36 countries worldwide, and been performed in English, Dutch, German, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, French, Danish, Japanese, and Korean. It has played over 32,500 performances worldwide and is the world’s longest-running American musical.
Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, Chicago has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Ebb.
