The Acting Company continues its 2016-17 John McDonald Salon Series February 13 at 7 PM with a reading of Karel Čapek’s science fiction comedy R.U.R. at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater at the West Side YMCA, 10 W. 64th Street, New York.

Tony Award nominee Dana Ivey directs a cast that includes Matthew Amendt (Coriolanus, Red Bull Theater), Freddy Arsenault (The Royal Family), Rebecca Brooksher (The Real Thing), Caleb Carlson (Julius Caesar, The Acting Company), Todd Cerveris (South Pacific, Twentieth Century), Ian Gould (Rosencrantz & Guildenstern…, The Acting Company), Patricia Hodges (Born Yesterday, The Best Man), Carl Howell (Peter & The Starcatcher first national tour), Angela Janas (Macbeth, The Acting Company), David Lansbury (War Horse, Hedda Gabler), David Manis (The Curious Incident…, War Horse), Lisa Tharps (King Hedley II), Richard Topol (Fish in the Dark, The Normal Heart), Andrew Weems (Born Yesterday, Inherit the Wind), and Daniel Joseph Yaiullo (Macbeth, Park Avenue Armory). Marc Vietor will read the stage directions.

The social satire, which introduced the word robot to the world, “chronicles a mechanized creation’s revolt against its inventors,” according to press notes. “This classic play finds new relevance in an age in which technology—both its promise and its pitfalls—is an increasingly inescapable part of our lives.” The title is an abbreviation for “Rossum’s Universal Robots.”

The Salon Reading Series will continue March 20 at Culture Project’s Lynn Redgrave Theater with a reading of Marcus Gardley’s A Wolf in Snakeskin Shoes, or The Gospel of Tartuffe.

Single tickets are $15-$35 and include a post-show reception with the cast. Purchase at www.theactingcompany.org or call (212) 258-3111.
