The Lexington Theatre Company is currently presenting Disney’s The Little Mermaid, featuring a mix of Broadway and local actors and college students, in the Lexington Opera House through July 17.
The cast features Edward Watts (Scandalous) as King Triton, Emily Cramer (School of Rock) as Ursula, Ryan Gregory Thurman (After Midnight, Elf) as Sebastian, and Brance Cornelius (How The Grinch Stole Christmas) as Scuttle with recent college graduates Teah M. Renzi and Gonzalo Aburto de la Fuente as, respectively, Ariel and Prince Eric.
The company also includes Gregory Hancock as Grimsby, Cavan Hendron as Chef Louis, Tammie J. Harris as Carlotta, and Benjamin Preacely as Flounder with ensemble members Lindsay Lee Alhady, Travis Anderson, Wesley Byers, Jamie Dee Bradley, Jordan DeLeon, Brady Foley, Alloria Frayser, Anna Hertel, Ginger Hurley, Nicholas Kraft, Sydni Moon, Paris Porché Richardsono, Julianne Roberts, Eric Shawn, Greg Sim, Renell Taylor, and Devin Watson.
Artistic Director Lyndy Franklin Smith, who performed in the Broadway company of The Little Mermaid, directs with choreography by Mara Newbery Greer and music direction by Brock Terry, who conducts The Lex Orchestra.
The Little Mermaid features music by Alan Menken, a book by Doug Wright, and lyrics by Glenn Slater and the late Howard Ashman. Based on the Disney animated film and Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale, the stage musical follows the story of headstrong Ariel, a mermaid with dreams beyond the ocean floor.
