Readings and Workshops Cast Set for Developmental Readings of It Happened in Key West Musical

Rebecca Martinez will direct the musical penned by Jill Santoriello, Jason Huza, and Jeremiah James.

Developmental lab readings of the musical comedy It Happened in Key West will be presented October 27 at 2 PM and October 28 at 1 PM in the Elaine Cancilla Orbach Studio at The Theater Center in Manhattan.

Directed by Rebecca Martinez, the cast will feature Darilyn Castillo (Hamilton), Xander Chauncey (Distant Thunder), Henry Gainza (On Your Feet!), Iliana Garcia (Younger), Ryan Morales Green (Flashdance the Musical), Alexandra Imbrosci-Viera (The Pirates of Penzance), Cedric Leiba, Jr. (Bros., Rent tour), Travis Kent (Disaster!), Wade McCollum (Wicked, My Fair Lady), Mia Pinero (West Side Story), Nancy Ticotin (In the Heights), and Miguel Angel Vasquez (Stonewall NYC Opera).

Based on a true story of obsessive love, the romantic musical comedy features a book, music, and lyrics by Jill Santoriello, a book and additional lyrics by Jason Huza, and a book and original concept by Jeremiah James.

The musical centers on Carl Von Vosel, who after losing the love of his life in an untimely death from tuberculosis, endeavors to take her body from the graveyard to his home, where they live undetected for almost a decade. It Happened in Key West had its world premiere at Charing Cross Theatre in London, a production directed and choreographed by Marc Robin.

The music director is Saul Nache, and the stage manager is Jessica Kate Mathews.

Amas Musical Theatre and the Amas Musical Theatre Lab, in association with Jeremiah James and Rashad V. Chambers, will present the readings.
