Broadway's award-winning Suffs will commemorate the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, as well as Women's Equality Day, with several celebrations held August 18-26.
The week of festivities will kick off at the August 18 matinee, which marks the 104th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. The audience for this performance is invited to wear white in celebration of the suffragists; a sticker giveaway will also be held.
The moment of ratification is dramatized in a pivotal moment in the new musical, and the production has released footage to celebrate. Watch Tony nominee Emily Skinner perform "A Letter From Harry's Mother" in the video below.
On August 20, the evening performance's audience will participate in a sing-along of "The March," led by the Suffs company. The celebration is part of The Broadway League's Kids Night on Broadway initiative. At the August 21 evening performance, female-founded brewery Talea Beer Co. will host a pre-show gift card giveaway.
At the August 22 performance, Starbright Floral Design will host a post-show flower giveaway, and 19 audience members will be selected before the show to receive yellow roses at their seat. For the August 23 performance, Haswell Green's will host a pre-show drink ticket giveaway.
The August 24 evening performance is presented in partnership with the League of Women Voters, and will feature a roll call of representatives from all 36 states that ratified the 19th Amendment. The evening will also include a post-show talkback hosted by the League of Women Voters, featuring CEO Celina Stewart, historian Kimberly Hamlin, and journalist Erin Geiger Smith.
Additional celebrations throughout the week will include a suffrage reading section at The Drama Book Shop, with select patrons to receive surprise bookmarks signed by the Suffs cast; specialty cocktails at P.S. Kitchen and Haswell Green's accompanied by ticket giveaways for select patrons who order the respective Suffs drinks; and a 19% discount at Gone to the Dogs for all customers who show a Suffs ticket stub or enter the code SUFFS19 online, as well as ticket giveaways for select customers who purchase merchandise from the in-store Suffs display.

The suffragists, some of whom are depicted in our show, paved the way for Kamala Harris, for Hillary Clinton, for Sonia Sotomayor, and for all the powerful women in government that get to hold office today. It’s an honor to share their stories and encourage audience members who are inspired by their achievements to get out there and vote this fall.”

Set in the years leading up to the 19th amendment, Suffs explores the Women's Suffrage movement's victories and failures with a 2024 Tony-winning book, music, and lyrics by Shaina Taub.
Taub stars in her own musical as Alice Paul, alongside Tony winner Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon) as Ida B. Wells, Tony nominee Colella (Come From Away) as Carrie Chapman Catt, Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812) as President Woodrow Wilson, Hannah Cruz as Inez Milholland, Kim Blanck as Ruza Wenclawska, Anastacia McCleskey (Waitress) as Mary Church Terrell, Ally Bonino as Lucy Burns, Tsilala Brock as Dudley Malone, Nadia Dandashi as Doris Stevens, and Tony nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show) as Alva Belmont/Phoebe Burn.
Director Leigh Silverman is at the helm, leading a creative team that includes music supervisor and music director Andrea Grody, choreographer Mayte Natalio, scenic designer Riccardo Hernández, costume designer Paul Tazewell, lighting designer Lap Chi Chu, sound designer Jason Crystal, and orchestrator Michael Starobin. 101 Productions is the general manager.
