Starring Billy Eugene Jones, Pauletta Pearson Washington, Phyllis Yvonne StickneyDenise Burse, Donny Hinson, and Peggy Alston, the evening will feature excerpts from six of the most notable plays that have been mounted at the theatre in its history. Each work will represent a different decade except for the final two, which will both be pulled from the 2010s.

The plays include Inacent Black and The Five Brothers by A. Marcus Hemphill (1979), Tambourines To Glory by Langston Hughes (1980), The Past Is the Past by Richard Wesley (1990), Faith On Line by Joyce Sylvester (2001), Brother’s From The Bottom by Jackie Alexander (2010), and The Old Settler by John Henry Redwood (2017).

The Obie-winning Brooklyn theatre was founded in May 1972 in the midst of the American Civil Rights and Black Arts movements. Continuing the work established in its roots, The Billie Holiday Theatre is committed to creating and presenting art rooted in racial justice.
