Two-time Olivier winner Bertie Carvel, the original Miss Trunchbull in the London and Broadway productions of Matilda The Musical; and Olivier winner Patsy Ferran, recently seen in the West End staging of A Streetcar Named Desire; head the cast of a new production of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, officially opening at London's The Old Vic September 19.

Directed by Richard Jones (Endgame, Katya Kabanova), the classic Shaw comedy began previews September 6 for a limited engagement through October 28.

Carvel, who won Oliviers for his performances in Matilda and Ink, plays the eccentric, egotistical linguist Professor Henry Higgins with Summer and Smoke Olivier winner Ferran as Eliza Doolittle, the indomitable Covent Garden flower girl with grander aspirations.

Joining Carvel and Ferran are Lizzy Connolly as Clara Eynsford Hill, Grace Cookey-Gam as Mrs. Eynsford Hill, Penny Layden as Mrs. Pearce, Sylvestra Le Touzel as Mrs. Higgins, Michael Gould as Colonel Pickering, John Marquez as Alfred Doolittle, Taheen Modak as Freddy Eynsford Hill, and Kieran Smith as Aristid Karpathy.

Rounding out the company in the ensemble are Steven Dykes, Liz Jadav, Caroline Moroney, and Rohan Rakhit. Casting is by Jessica Ronane.

The production also features design by Stewart Laing, lighting by Adam Silverman, sound by Tony Gayle, composition and arrangement by Will Stuart, movement by Sarah Fahie, dialect by William Conacher, voice by Charlie Hughes-D’Aeth, costume supervision by Sarah Bowern, and wigs, hair, and make-up supervision by Keisha-Paris Banya.

I’m very happy to return to the welcoming and supportive team at The Old Vic having been here in 2015 and 2020 with The Hairy Ape and Endgame, respectively."
