Beowulf Boritt
Tony-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt (The Piano Lesson, POTUS, Flying Over Sunset) gives a reading from his new book Transforming Space Over Time: Set Design and Visual Storytelling with Broadway's Legendary Directors at The Drama Book Shop October 11 at 7 PM.
Peabody winner Elliott Forrest hosts a discussion after the reading between Boritt and fellow book collaborators, the Tony-winning directors James Lapine (Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George) and Susan Stroman (The Producers, Contact).
Transforming Space Over Time goes inside five Broadway productions and one Off-Broadway production from the moment Boritt received the job offer through conceptual development and challenges faced to putting it on the stage. He gives insights into his conversations and collaborations with industry favorites such as James Lapine, Kenny Leon, Hal Prince, Susan Stroman, Jerry Zaks, and Stephen Sondheim. From these different insights, Boritt offers what he learned about shaping the project and creative collaboration.
Transforming Space Over Time is published by Applause Theatre & Cinema Books, an imprint of Globe Pequot, and was released August 15, 2022. The Piano Lesson's LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Samuel L. Jackson hosted the book's launch at Sardi's.
MacFarlane, who previously donated $1 million, is partnering with the organization to help raise $10 million as the ongoing strikes affect film and TV workers.
Written by Dean Pitchford, Doug Besterman, and Timothy Allen McDonald, the musical made its world premiere at Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company in 2019.
Physical therapists, athletic trainers, and massage therapists working with tours of The Lion King, Wicked, and Moulin Rouge! are the newest members of the backstage union.
Nikki M. James will moderate the panel that includes stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, writers Anthony King and Scott Brown, and director Alex Timbers.
