Tony-winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, Almost Famous) will return to 54 Below this spring with a series of concerts featuring a host of Broadway favorites.
Simply titled Tom Kitt & Friends: 4 Concerts, performances are scheduled for April 29–May 3. Each evening will focus on a different period in the composer's career.
The April 29 concert will feature Kitt's songs written between 1994 and 2006, including his earliest work with Brian Yorkey as well as tunes from Feeling Electric/Next to Normal and High Fidelity. Guests are currently scheduled to include Caissie Levy (Next to Normal) and Julia Murney (Wicked).
The April 30 performance, highlighting work created between 2007 and 2014, will include songs from American Idiot, Freaky Friday, Bring It On, and If/Then, performed by Nick Blaemire (Bring It On), Heidi Blickenstaff (Jagged Little Pill), Colin Donnell (The Shark Is Broken), Mandy Gonzalez (Sunset Boulevard), and Patti Murin (Frozen).
Covering work created between 2015 and 2024, the May 2 concert will feature songs from Flying Over Sunset, The Visitor, Jagged Little Pill, Almost Famous, Superhero, and Reflect. Performers will include Kate Baldwin (Hello, Dolly!), Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Alysha Deslorieux (Hamilton), Casey Likes (Almost Famous), Elena Shaddow (The Visit), Pearl Sun (Come From Away), and Lola Tung (Hadestown).
The final concert on May 3 will feature songs from projects that are to come, performed by DeBose, Sara Chase (The Great Gatsby), and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies).
Additional performers will be announced at a later time. All shows begin at 7 PM.
In a statement Kitt said, "Having turned 50 this past year, I suddenly have found myself with the urge to explore my body of work and take stock of all the projects I have been fortunate enough to be a part of. And so, along with an incredible line-up of friends, I am going to create four distinct evenings in which I get the opportunity to perform songs from different periods of creativity."
Composer, arranger, conductor, musical director, and orchestrator Kitt won two Tony Awards in 2009 for Best Orchestrations and Best Original Score for the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal. Grammy winner Kitt, who released his debut solo album Reflect in 2020 on Sony Masterworks, was also Tony-nominated in 2024 for Best Orchestrations for Hell's Kitchen, in 2023 for Best Original Score for Almost Famous, in 2022 for Best Original Score for Flying Over Sunset, in 2020 for Best Orchestrations for Jagged Little Pill, in 2018 for Best Orchestrations for SpongeBob SquarePants, and in 2014 for Best Original Score for If/Then. His numerous other Broadway credits include An Evening With Mario Cantone, Urban Cowboy, Laugh Whore, High Fidelity, 13, American Idiot, Everyday Rapture, Bring It On The Musical, Orphans, and Head Over Heels.
