A biomusical about the life of famed Spanish artist Pablo Picasso is in the works, with Antonio Banderas set to star. Wicked writer Stephen Schwartz will provide the songs, with playwright Caridad Svich penning the book.
First reported by Spanish newspaper Sur, the project is reportedly a collaboration between Banderas' Malaga theatre company Teatro del Soho Caixabank and West End theatre owner Trafalgar Entertainment, headed by Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire. While the current status of the project is unclear, Greenberg, Schwartz, and Svich joined Banderas in Malaga, hometown to both Picasso and Banderas, for a research trip earlier this month.
The musical would be the second time that Banderas has taken on the cubist artist, following 2017's Genius: Picasso for National Geographic.
