An audio-immersive play adaptation of George Orwell's 1984 is on the horizon, featuring some theatre world favorites. Releasing April 4, the Audible Original is available for preorder now.
Starring Andrew Garfield as Winston, Cynthia Erivo as Julia, Andrew Scott as O’Brien, and Tom Hardy as Big Brother, the production will also feature Chukwudi Iwuji, Romesh Ranganathan, Natasia Demetriou, Francesca Mills, Alex Lawther, and Katie Leung.
Set in a dystopia where individuals are observed at all times by the omnisciently powerful Big Brother, a man named Winston Smith dreams of freedom. When he meets Julia and O'Brien, the trio vow to rebel, even as the dividing line between friend and foe blends, and the nature of reality is rewritten before their very eyes. The classic book was published in 1949. Olivier-nominated playwright Joe White has written the dramatization for Audible.
Featuring an original score composed by Muse’s lead singer and songwriter Matthew Bellamy and Ilan Eshkeri, which was recorded by the London Metropolitan Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, the production is directed by BAFTA winner Destiny Ekaragha, produced in Dolby Atmos by Granny Eats Wolf.
Also featured within the audio drama will be Ian Abeysekera, Rachel Atkins, Grace Baker, Joanna Brookes, Clare Corbett, Doug Devaney, Imogen Front, Sam Garioch, Raj Ghatak, Frances Jeater, Mason Moore, Yasmin Mwanza, Harry Myers, Kaelum Nelson, John Sackville, Sienna Sangha, Sam Stafford, Jo Troy, Jenny White, Sarah Whitehouse, and Alix Wilton Regan.
