Cabaret & Concert News Anastasia’s Max von Essen Will Return to Birdland The Tony nominee will be joined by Billy Stritch.

American in Paris Tony nominee Max von Essen, currently on Broadway in Anastasia, will return to Birdland October 29 at 7:30 PM.

The actor, who debuted his newest concert act in April as part of the Broadway at Birdland concert series, will again be joined by musical director Billy Stritch on piano with Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf on cello, Steve Doyle on bass, and Daniel Glass on drums. Von Essen's show celebrates Broadway and the American Songbook.

For his portrayal of Henri Baurel in An American in Paris, von Essen received nominations for Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Grammy Awards. He also appeared on Broadway in the revival of Evita, Dance of the Vampires, Jesus Christ Superstar, and the closing company of the original Les Misérables (as well as the first revival).
