Off-Broadway's 59E59 Theaters has announced the lineup of productions for its winter 2025 season. 

The season will kick off with Old Cock, penned by Robert Schenkkan and directed by Jorge Andrade. The production is presented by Mala Voadora in association with Twilight Theatre Co. and Peacedale Global Arts, and performances will run January 8-19. The political satire brings Portugal's most popular souvenir, The Rooster of Barcelos, to life as he demands answers from fascist dictator Prime Minister Salazar. 

From January 11-February 9, The Civilians will present Radio Downtown: Radical '70s Artists Live on Air, created and directed by Steve Cosson. Made from archival interviews from WNYC’s “Arts Forum,” a 1970s radically open format radio show about avant garde artists, the world premiere production combines verbatim broadcasts from '70s trailblazers with images and films of the time. 

Ken Ludwig's Dear Jack, Dear Louise will follow, presented by Penguin Rep Theatre and Shadowland Stages and running January 18-February 16. The work will be directed by Stephen Nachamie, with Alexandra Fortin and Michael Liebhauser starring. Dear Jack, Dear Louise details the love story of Ludwig’s parents against the backdrop of World War II.

Robin Rice's Pecking Order will run January 29-February 15, with Basil Rodericks at the helm. The play unfolds when two red-tailed hawks build a nest on a ritzy apartment building on the Upper East Side. Doorman Albert is determined to protect them, but many of the building’s residents aren’t happy about it. The work is presented by American Bard Theater Company. 

From February 26-March 15, No. 11 Productions will present Danny Tieger's Sugarcraft, with Ryan Emmons directing. The work invites audiences to enter Lady Dupray’s exclusive parlour for a cooking presentation by Mary Eales, who dazzled Queen Anne's royal court with the invention of ice cream. 

As previously reported, 59E59's resident company Primary Stages will present Amerikin, the final production of Chisa Hutchinson’s AMPLIFY Festival, March 1-April 15. The work follows a new father who joins a white supremacist group to protect his son. When his attempt is thwarted by surprising ancestry test results, the line between “us” and “them” blurs.

Rounding out the season will be two shows in the LAB: STRIPPED series presented by LAByrinth Theater Company. Works-in-progress House of Blue Robes by Seth Zvi Rosenfeld and Recurring by Madeline Barr will be staged March 7-16 and March 21-30, respectively.  

The season will close with Rise Productions’ Fight Night and In Two Minds, each presented by Fishamble: The New Play Company as part of Origin’s 1st Irish festival. Fight Night (April 1-20) is written by Gavin Kostick and directed by Bryan Burroughs, with Aonghus Óg McAnally starring. In Two Minds (April 2-20) is written by Joanne Ryan and directed by Sarah Jane Scaife, and the cast will feature Pom Boyd and Karen McCartney. 

"This winter season offers a rare opportunity to experience Off-Broadway premieres by Broadway icons Ken Ludwig and Robert Schenkkan in good company with inventive talents such as Chisa Hutchinson. Our season is a testament to the wide range of theater we strive to present," Val Day, artistic director of 59E59 Theaters, said in a statement. "The creative freedom we offer companies allows them to fully tap into a wellspring of innovation to bring forth meaningful stories leaving our audiences feeling entertained, connected, and excited to return for more."

As previously reported, 59E59 recently received a $10 million gift from the Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation that dramatically reduced costs for productions using the company's three performance spaces.
