Geffen Playhouse has revealed casting for its upcoming production of Selina Fillinger's POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive. Jennifer Chambers is directing the production, which begins performances January 17, 2024, ahead of a January 25 opening night at the California venue. The run will continue through February 18.
The cast will feature Broadway alums Ito Aghayere as Chris, Alexandra Billings as Margaret, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Jean, Lauren Blumenfeld as Stephanie, and Maria Bello as Bernadette, along with Shannon Cochran as Harriet and Jane Levy as Dusty. Casting is by Phyllis Schuringa.
A modern farce, the work centers on a PR nightmare that befalls the White House, with seven female support staff risking everything to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. The work made a Broadway bow in 2022.
Geffen's production will feature set design by Brett J. Banakis, costume design by Samantha C. Jones, lighting design by Elizabeth Harper, and original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones. Julie Ouellette is the fight director, Amanda Rose Villarreal is intimacy director, and Olivia O'Connor will serve as dramaturg. Darlene Miyakawa is production stage manager and Colleen Danaher is assistant stage manager.
