Broadway News Ain't No Mo' Delays Broadway Start

Cases of COVID within the company are delaying previews by one week.

Jordan E. Cooper

Jordan E. Cooper's Ain't No Mo' has delayed its Broadway previews, which will now begin November 9 due to cases of COVID within the company. The production, previously set to begin November 1, is still scheduled to officially open December 1 at the Belasco Theatre. News of the delayed start was shared by the production on Instagram.

The comedy imagines what would happen if the U.S. government offered Black Americans one-way plane tickets to Africa. The show played a world-premiere run at Off-Broadway's The Public Theater in 2019.

Cooper will reprise his performance as Peaches from the Public run for the Broadway bow. As previously announced, he'll be joined by fellow Off-Broadway cast members Crystal Lucas-Perry (late of 1776) as Passenger #5, Fedna Jacquet as Passenger #1, Marchánt Davis as Passenger #2, and Ebony Marshall-Oliver as Passenger #4. Shannon Matesky joins the company as Passenger #3.

Rounding out the company as understudies are Nik Alexander, Jasminn Johnson, Michael Rishawn, Kedren Spencer, Brennie Tellu, and Emma Van Lare.

Back at the helm from the Off-Broadway staging is Stevie Walker-Webb, making his Broadway debut. Walker-Webb's creative team will also feature lighting designer Adam Honoré, scenic designer Scott Pask, costume designer Emilio Sosa, co-sound designers Jonathan Deans and Taylor Williams, and wig designer Mia M. Neal.

Lee Daniels is producing, with Wagner Johnson Productions serving as executive producers and general managers.
