From Lincoln Center to Brooklyn Bridge Park, the classic arts scene in New York is never quiet. Here is just a sampling of some of the classic arts events happening this week:

American Ballet Theatre presents Giselle July 3-8 at the Metropolitan Opera House. Adolphe Adam’s tragic ballet, with choreography after Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot, and Marius Petipa, concerns a peasant girl, Giselle, who falls in love with Albrecht, a nobleman in disguise. ABT’s production of this staple of the ballet repertoire is staged by Kevin McKenzie, with scenic design by Gianni Quaranta, costume design by Anna Anni, and lighting design by Jennifer Tipton. ABT’s summer season will continue through July with productions of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Prokofiev’s Romeo And Juliet.

Cellist Jeffrey Solow will perform Bach’s first, second, and third cello suites July 7 at Bargemusic. This will be followed by a concert of the fourth, fifth, and sixth cello suites July 28. The six cello suites, each in six movements, are among the most popular works in the cello repertoire, with the prelude to the first suite in particular being frequently heard in movies and television programs.

The Harlem Chamber Players will perform at Bargemusic July 8 and 9. The string quintet will perform a program of classic and contemporary works, including Frederick Tillis’ Spiritual Fantasy No. 12, Jessie Montgomery’s Voodoo Dolls, and Mendelssohn’s second string quintet.

Violinist Isabella Li Lao will perform at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall July 6. Lao will perform Beethoven’s two extant Romances for violin and orchestra, Kreisler’s Tambourin Chinois, Tchaikovsky’s Scherzo in C Minor, and Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy, as well as works by Gang Chen and Zili Li.

July 7, pianist Rossitza Banova Hawkins will perform at the Weill Recital Hall, playing works by Liszt, Chopin, Brahms, G. Cassadó, Chirkova, and Prokofiev, with cellist Irina Chirkova.
