The world premiere production of Bright Star, the new musical by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, opened at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre Sept. 28. The show was inspired by the duo's bluegrass music collaboration, which earned their tune “Love Has Come For You" a Grammy for Best American Roots Song. Directed by Walter Bobbie, Bright Star takes place in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina between 1923 and 1945 when a young soldier (A.J. Shively) returns from war and, along with the editor of a literary journal (Carmen Cusack), discovers a secret that alters their lives.
