Princess Theatre

Built in 1913, the Princess Theatre was designed by architect William A. Swasey. It was located at 104 W. 39th Street and produced by F. Ray Comstock, actor-director Holbrook Blinn, and the Shuberts. The theatre hired Jerome Kern and Guy Bolton to write several musicals, including Nobody Home in 1915 and Oh Boy! in 1917. In the early 1920s, Six Characters in Search of an Author premiered. The theatre was renamed for actress Lucille La Verne briefly in 1928 but returned to its original name shortly after. Its size and location rendered the venue unpopular, and the Princess Theatre was demolished, as the Cinema Verdi, in June 1955.
