The Shuberts produced the Central Theatre in 1918. It was located at 1567 Broadway at 47th Street, designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp. The theatre opened with the play Forever After, starring Alice Brady and Conrad Nagel. Several years later, Oscar Hammerstein II made his Broadway debut as a book writer and lyricist with the musical Always You. The Central Theatre struggled as a legitimate theatre house, and it was later known as the Odeon, the Forum, the Forum 47th Street Theatre, and Movieland. This theatre was demolished in 1998, as Movieland, and replaced by the W Hotel.
