Producer William A. Brady introduced the Playhouse Theatre in 1911, located at 137 W. 48th Street. The Playhouse presented Elmer Rice’s 1929 Pulitzer Prize-winner Street Scene. Before the theatre was demolished in 1969, the Playhouse Theatre was used as a location for Mel Brooks’ movie The Producers, starring Gene Wilder.
