Now, Sperling is directing a production of The Pirates of Penzance June 10 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

Fun Home, the new Broadway musical based on the autobiographical memoir of lesbian cartoonist Alison Bechdel, raked in nearly $600,000 at the box office Sunday, June 7 – the day it won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The 2002 Helen Hayes Awards, presented May 6, spread the wealth around DC's resident theatres, honoring the Signature and Shakespeare Theatres with three wins each, as well as pairs of citations to the Studio, Rep Stage, Arena Stage and the Round House. The Kennedy Center, presenter of the Dirty Blonde tour as well as Brit imports Mill on the Floss and A Servant of Two Masters garnered a trio of awards.
