Like nearly a dozen other New York shows, the Off-Broadway comedy Strictly Personal was set to shutter at the end of last year. But at the last minute, the producers decided to stay the executioner and keep the show going at least one more week, through Jan. 7. That week turned into two full months, with the show reaching performance number 150 on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Like nearly a dozen other New York shows, the Off-Broadway comedy Strictly Personal was set to shutter at the end of last year. But at the last minute, the producers decided to stay the executioner and keep the show going at least one more week, through Jan. 7.

In 2002, those we said goodbye to included a lyricist-librettist who infused musical comedy with touches of crazy impishness, a Nebraska-born actress who became known as a great interpreter of the classics in London and Broadway, and a veteran producer who embraced writers ranging from Euripides to Shakespeare to Terrence McNally.

I spoke with Betty Buckley's assistant this week to check on how one of our favorite ladies is doing: Buckley's back surgery went well and is slated to leave the hospital this Saturday, Sept. 6, and then she will require a few week's rest before heading back to The Great White Way in Triumph of Love.
