Actress Patricia Marand, who was nominated for a 1966 Tony Award for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Broadway musical It's a Bird ... It's a Plane ... It's Superman, died Nov. 27, 2008, in her Manhattan home. The cause was brain cancer. She was 74. Harold Prince directed the short-lived Charles Strouse musical, which starred Bob Holiday as Superman. As Lois Lane, Ms. Marand sang "It's Superman," "We Don't Matter at All," "What I've Always Wanted" and "I'm Not Finished Yet."

A statuesque redhead, Ms. Marand was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 25, 1934, to Patrick and Justine Marandino. She made her Broadway debut as a replacement performer in South Pacific. She was again directed by Joshua Logan in 1952's Harold Rome musical Wish You Were Here, which was set at Camp Karefree, a summer camp for adults, and featured an actual swimming pool on stage.

Known as much as a singer as an actress, she was active in the summer stock and concert circuit, performing with the Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New Haven and Minneapolis symphony orchestras.

Her television and film appearances were minimal, though she did manage to make an appearance on a 2000 episode of "The Sopranos."

Her survivors include her husband Irving Salem.
