ABOUT THE POSITION
Seattle Rep is seeking a skilled Wardrobe Supervisor to join the Costume Department Team. The Wardrobe Supervisor is a vital member of the Costume Department and provides essential support for realizing our artistic visions and every production. This position is responsible for coordinating the care, maintenance, organization, and changes of costume for all productions in the Leo K Theatre. The Wardrobe Supervisor is the crew head for the entire Leo K wardrobe crew, supervising all work and performance calls. The Wardrobe Supervisor may also provide additional support to the other positions on the wardrobe crew in the Leo K. and Bagley Wright Theaters.?
Typical Duties Include:
Act as Leo K. crew head
Reads and remains knowledgeable about the script and the actions of the play.
Familiarizes themselves with the design by reviewing sketches, examining fitting photos, and discussing details with the Design Associate.
Attends a run-through and wardrobe meeting before tech rehearsals begin.
In collaboration with the Costume Director, schedule crew hours and weekly calls, determine needs for over-hire dressers, and place calls for same.
Is responsible for making over-hire dressing assignments and organizing quick changes, in consultation with the Design Associate.
Creates and updates wardrobe tracks and run list documents in co-ordination with Stage Management
Lead Show Changeovers
Works with the Draper/Tailor and Design Associate to determine the special needs of costumes regarding quick changes and maintenance.
Coordinates with stage management and the stage crew regarding set-up and placement of backstage change booths/stations.
Coordinates with Wig Crew in choreographing quick changes that involve hair and wigs
Coordinates and performs strike of costumes including laundry, preparing items for dry cleaning, and helping to inventory and pack traveling shows.
Lead and supervise care, maintenance, and organization of costume elements.
Maintains the integrity of the design throughout the run of the production.
Maintains costumes during performance periods, including but not limited to repairs, laundry, and dry cleaning.
Maintains the organization of the wardrobe room and cleanliness of the equipment.
Supervise and run shows as a member of the wardrobe crew
When there is only one wig for one actor: responsible for putting it on and removing it.
At times when a production calls for only one dresser, the Wardrobe Supervisor will run the show solo
Act in other capacities on wardrobe crew as time allows and shows require
Build and Maintain a Personal Investment in Seattle Rep and our EDI work
Proactive engagement and implementation of EDI (Equity Diversity & Inclusion) practices.
Attends meetings pertinent to production, costumes, all SREP staff and EDI work.
Promotes a respectful work environment.
Attends to other assignments as identified by the Costume Director, including but not limited to activities in the Theatre.
Minimum Qualifications:
Commitment to cultivating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace via decisive action including consistently seeking out opportunities for self and community improvement in the areas of racial equity, accessibility, gender inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity.
Five years of relevant experience or three years’ experience as either a Wardrobe Supervisor or Dresser for professional theater.
Must be a current member of the Theatrical Wardrobe Union, Local #887 or eligible to register with Local #887 prior to or upon being hired by SREP
Experience in all areas of costuming including mending, stitching, quick change rigging, accessories, leather, and jewelry.
A demonstrated ability to work effectively as a leader, independently, and as a member of a team.
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with actors, while respecting their privacy.
Ability to work long hours including late nights and weekends.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in theatre with a production emphasis, or the equivalent experience.
Working knowledge of a wide range of fabrics and their characteristics and care.
Working knowledge of washing machines/dryers, irons, steamers, industrial and domestic sewing machines, garment cleaning techniques and products, and appropriate safety procedures.
The ability to stand for extended periods of time and physically move quickly.
The ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
The ability to remain calm and focused under stressful circumstances.
