DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW

At Columbus Children’s Theatre (hereafter referred to as CCT), we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. We believe in the power of storytelling to bridge gaps, promote understanding, and celebrate the richness of human experience. We strive to create a space where all voices are heard, valued and represented on and off the stage and in our studios. We are dedicated to dismantling barriers, addressing systemic inequalities, and promoting diversity in our productions, programs, staff, and audience. Through intentional actions and ongoing education, we aim to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future.

What Differentiates CCT?

While different than most children’s theatres, CCT employs many of the region’s best professional adults and youth artists to produce shows that engage audiences from ages 2-99. Using a hybrid casting model, adults are cast in adult roles and children in youth roles. Because of the artistic quality of the productions, our audiences include a number of adults and children.

Younger children enjoy the Sandbox Series intended for children ages 2-8. An example from this year includes Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat. Young performers gain experience through Spotlight Series productions like Mr. Scrooge, intended for families with elementary and middle school-aged children. Lastly, the Professional Series features the region’s best large-scale productions, like Ragtime, for families with high school-age children or adult patrons. Each Series is intended to support actors, technicians, and audiences on each step of the journey to adulthood. The savvy nature of today’s teens mandates Professional Series productions to challenge audiences with relevant titles and new immersive work. In conjunction with CCT education programs, this multi-tiered Series strategy ensures there is something for everyone. In 2019, CCT Scenic was developed to elevate the quality of the scenic elements of each production. As a result, our professional staff now builds scenery for many local nonprofit clients in addition to CCT.
